Clinical Utility  

The Immunohistochemistry Laboratory provides the following services through identification of antigens on paraffin embedded tissue sections and the use of properly selected panels:

  • Identification of tumor type and subclassification.

    • Lymphoma versus carcinoma

    • Lymphoma phenotyping

    • Hodgkin’s versus non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma

    • Undifferentiated tumor phenotyping

    • Adenocarcinoma versus mesothelioma

    • Melanoma versus carcinoma versus lymphoma

  • Markers of therapeutic value: cerb B2, ckitt

  • Additional markers may be useful in assessing proliferation (Ki67) or prognosis (p53) in selected tumor types
