In the ward

  • Once the patient arrive to the ward, he is received by the head-nurse and the nurse in charge and progress notes are made.

  • An INR is made if the patients  receiving Warfarin

  • An infusion chart is made if the patient has IV standing orders.

  • Blood transfusion are strictly managed through the blood transfusion chart.

 

  • His vital signs are charted, given an analgesic and left to sleep for 2-3 hours before starting mobilization.

  • Patient vital signs are charted every 4 hours for the first day then every 6 hours thereafter.

  • Patients are encouraged to mobilize from the first day.

  • Patients are seen by the cardiologist and surgical registrars twice per day.
