Infection control
The cardiac surgery unit has a dedicated infection control officer.
The officer do daily rounds in the department to make sure of the implementation of the infection control protocol and strict hand washing protocols.
All theaters are checked on monthly bases by taking air samples and culture and sensitivity.
All patients are put on third generation cephalosporin intravenously for 72 hours post-operatively.
•All IV lines are dated and signed and no line is allowed more than 72 hours.
Any active discharge or fever are reported and investigated by the infection control officer.
