Infection control

  • The cardiac surgery unit has a dedicated infection control officer.

  • The officer do daily rounds in the department to make sure of the implementation of the infection control protocol and strict hand washing protocols.

  • All theaters are checked on monthly bases by taking air samples and culture and sensitivity.

  • All patients are put on third generation cephalosporin intravenously for 72 hours post-operatively.

  • All IV lines are dated and signed and no line is allowed more than 72 hours.

  • Any active discharge or fever are reported and investigated by the infection control officer.
