Registration

  • Since 1997, patient registration is performed on a computer network covering the whole department.

  • The software used is PATS (Patient Analysis and Tracking System) from Dendrite Systems Inc.

  • The minimum dataset published by the EACTS is used for registration.

  • We have in-house IT engineer to ensure smooth running of the network and the program.

  • Patient is not transferred from the ICU until his operative notes automatically generated from the PATS system is printed and included in his file.

  • A discharge summary is also printed on the day of discharge.

  • We have nearly 14,000 patients on the system today.

  • Starting from the sixth month, he is allowed to be attached to one of our consultants to be involved in the surgical training program under supervision of a more senior registrar.

  • After the first year, he is attached to the a surgical consultant as an independent registrar with rotation every three months.

  • Registrars are encouraged to pass their master degree of surgery during their four year training period they spend in the department.
