Transfer to ICU

  • Once the procedure is concluded and the patient is closed and wounds covered aseptically, he is undraped and attached to portable monitor for ECG, saturation and invasive blood pressure.

  • He is transferred to his ICU bed then taken to the ICU accompanied by the surgical and anesthetic registrars.

  • The patient is ventilated by an Ambo bag with an oxygen cylinder by the anesthetist all the way.

In-the ICU

  • The ICU is supervised by Dr. Ahmed Ghali, MD in Cardiology.  Three consultants are in charge covering the whole week 24 hours a day.  The ICU protocol is written and implemented by every body.

  • The on-call for the surgical registrars include ICU shifts.  At least three registrars are present in the ICU at any shift.

  • Once the patient arrives, he is received by the nurse in charge of his bed, the head nurse and the registrar in charge of the ICU.

  • He is set on the ICU monitor and ventilator and managed according to the protocol.  Accurate charting is maintained.

  • Visiting in the ICU is through a closed camera and audio circuits and allowed for close relatives only.

  • Strict infection control protocol is maintaine.
