Department Development

With the opening of the new unit, by the end of 1999, we had an understanding with the Cardiac Surgery Department at Pittsburg University to supervise our procedures and improve our performance.

They executed 5 visits to our department over the following 2 years.

Each visit was for 1 week with a team of 10-12 persons varying from surgeons to anesthetists to nurses and technician.  They performed on average 40 open-heart cases per visit.

Complete evaluation of protocols, procedures, and performance was revised by this team.

We also had similar inputs from smaller teams from Glasgow University, surgeons from New York, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

All inputs were invaluable in the transfer of technology and teaching all the department personnel.
